WHAT IS ENGLISH?

English is the language used by most Australians to communicate and to function effectively in our society. It is one of the major languages of the world. Students who are proficient in English are better able to function in this society – to understand their place in the world; to gain satisfying employment; to go on to further study; to enhance their ability to think; for leisure; to develop meaningful relationships and to maintain a measure of control over their lives.

WHAT IS MATHEMATICS?

Mathematics A offers a detailed study of Mathematics relevant to everyday life-skills. The most successful students tend to be those who have a positive attitude towards learning, can adhere to a regular study plan and can communicate their mathematical learning effectively.

WHAT IS BUSINESS?

Business is the study of the two business areas of Accounting and Business Communication and Technologies. Business Communication and Technologies is the study of the environment of the business world and its associated interactions and relationships with people. Accounting is the study of the information system used to manage business, the financial aspects of businesses.

WHAT IS MUSIC?

Music is a discipline of the arts that the youth of today are immersed in. Technology has ensured that it is easy to access different genres’ and styles of music just about anywhere and at anytime. Studying music enables students to develop a richer understanding of how music works and how it integrates in society.

WHAT IS DANCE?

Dance is a subject that develops aesthetic awareness and the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills necessary to choreograph, perform and analyse ideas through the art form of dance. Through a range of learning experiences, dance enables learners to take part in and critically reflect upon dance activities as informed choreographers, performers and audience members.

 WHAT IS DRAMA?

Drama is a creative, purposeful and disciplined subject that encourages students to explore the workings, capabilities and changes within the contemporary theatre industry as well as exploring the links to heritage theatre styles. Through a range of learning experiences, Drama enables learners to participate in and critically reflect upon dramatic activity as informed creators, participants and audience members.

WHAT IS ENGINEERING?

Engineering is a practical course derived from industry practices.  It provides advanced workshop skills and practices in working with metal. Students will have a sound grasp of both written and spoken communication and are ready to explore novels, plays, poetry, film and documentaries as well as extend their own writing skills.

WHAT IS GEOGRAPHY?

Environmental Geography is the study of world places, people and environments and the interactions between them. Geography provides students with an awareness and understanding of the location (spatial) aspects of the world and the environmental aspects of the world. It provides students with knowledge and skills that allow them to become geographically informed citizens

WHAT IS GRAPHICS?

Graphics contributes to the development of technological literacy and develops the communication and problem-solving skills required for a large number of educational and vocational aspirations. Graphics is an Authority subject, enabling students to be eligible for an OP. Graphics at Innisfail State College is primarily based on the Auto Cad suite of computer aided drawing (CAD) programs.

WHAT IS PHYSICAL EDUCATION?

Physical Education aims to develop in students the skills to identify practices which promote skilful participation in physical pursuits. This program will equip students with the knowledge, skills, capacities and values along with the enthusiasm to maintain a healthy lifestyle in adulthood.

WHAT IS HISTORY?

History is the study of people, places, way of life, major events and issues that have shaped our modern world over the last 100 years. It provides students with knowledge and skills that enable them to understand the processes that have shaped today’s world.

WHAT IS HOSPITALITY?

Hospitality is designed to introduce students into the day-to-day operations of all aspects within the Hospitality industry.

WHAT IS INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY and DESIGN?

Industrial Design and Technology involves a Design, Make, Appraise approach to solving practical problems resulting in the construction of a wide variety of items in timber/plastic/metal. This course develops inquiring minds and intellectual skills that will help students think innovatively and purposefully about their material environment.
