Year 6 Orientation - Monday 23rd May 2022

Parents and guardians from the primary schools will be responsible for getting their child to Innisfail State College by 8:40am. Students who usually travel by bus to school can travel on the bus to Innisfail State College on this day. We are grateful to Trans North for their generous support of this arrangement. Under ISC teacher supervision, a bus chartered by Innisfail State College will transport students back to their respective primary schools including non-state schools, leaving ISC at 11am. There is no cost to students for participation in this program. The return buses to primary school are provided by ISC free of charge.

Accelerated Learning @ ISC

Students who are the top performers in their subjects have the opportunity in year 7 to be enrolled in accelerated math and English and extension Science programs. The accelerated classes work at a year 8 level and the extension classes challenge students with work at the top level of year 7. Enrolment into these subjects is based on a student's year 6 results and their year 5 NAPLAN results. Students and parents are advised of their enrolment when they start year 7 in 2023.

The ISC HOTSHOTS (Helping Our Top Students Have Opportunities to Shine) program delivered in year 6 is a taster for what is involved. Student participate in extension and accelerated learning opportunities to extend their knowledge and skills.  We are excited to announce that this program is now available to non-state school year 6 students who are considering enrolling at ISC in 2023. HOTSHOTS is delivered in term 2 and 3 only. State school students are nominated directly by their Principals to be able participate.

Non-state school students must apply directly to the school. Please contact Sally Hammett Deputy Principal Junior School sgham0@eq.edu.au for more information and an application form. Applications are due by Tuesday 17th May, with the program delivered from Tuesday 24th – Friday 27th May (week 6). Students can nominate for maths and science, English, health & physical education, the arts, geography and technology curriculum areas.
