In Term 1 of 2023, ISC students Ebony, Lateesha, Tshala and Gweneth dedicated their time to participate in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Aspirations Program (ATSIAP). They had three set tasks to complete: a persuasive speech, poetry and art.
The poetry focused on this year’s NAIDOC theme – For Our Elders, which honours their contributions and continued role in our communities.
The Persuasive Speech had three different topics that they could choose from. The girls chose the topic of Equity and Excellence for First Nations’ students in education where they researched the topic and then prepared their speech. The speech was then recorded and videoed without editing.
The Visual Art challenge asked students to create a design that represents the two core values of ATSIAP – Persistence and Optimism, accompanied by a 150–200 word synopsis.
Congratulations to the girls who were awarded the overall winners of the FNQ Regional 2023 Senior ATSIAP Challenge. The girls will now progress to round 2. We hope you enjoy reading their poem titled "Your Wandjina".
