IF you're thinking of purchasing a computer or laptop, please consider the following:
Student laptops can be connected by our technician to use the school internet and intranet when at school. This is called BYOD. All computers should be Windows 10 or 11, doesn't matter which. All Queensland state school students can download multiple free copies of the latest Microsoft Office 365 to their personal home computers and mobile devices.
A standard laptop should have 8 gb ram, i5 processor, solid state (SSD) / HDD. This is good enough for most tasks required at ISC.
A low-level computer would be 4 gb ram, i3 and a SATA disk drive (slower than SSD). These are noticeably slower than standard i5 laptops.
Improvements to standard include ram and/or processor upgrades (for faster processing times, and increasing HDD allow more data to be stored on the device). Also an add-on video card improves picture quality, which is good for CAD, gaming and video editing, but not a necessity. Your child may like all these but they come at a price; standard specs are adequate.
